I am new to skating so I cannot compare them with other skates. Overall I give these a 4/10 and would probably suggest the riedell Ravens over these anyday unless you have a wider foot. If you have wide feet and are looking for a high boot, I'd definitely try these on. However! There is one situation where these may be the skates for you despite the imperfections- wide feet! If you have wide feet VNLA is known for having larger toe boxes than most other brands and this is certainly true for these A La Modes. Some roller bone wheels would have been a much better option. The 96A medallion wheels for the indoor option also aren't ideal for most situations, especially hardwood floors where a 98A would be far more effective.

The lace's are also this thick canvas material that will untie itself just by looking at them- I really wish they spent the extra $2 for some quality waxed laces. For starters, they used the absolute cheapest nylon plate available from FoxPro in China, they aren't God awful, but I would've liked to see something a bit nicer for the $230 price point. The build quality is there, however it's the finishing touches they lack for me. Overall I was a little disappointed with these high boots by VNLA. The ugly- Nothing really worth putting in the ugly category. That bad- Terrible laces, not a great stock indoor wheel option, cheap nylon plates The good- Decent Build quality, thick and durable suede and heavily adjustable trucks. Okie dokie so our shop just got a few A La Modes to sample and I want to do a little review on them. Violation of this rule may result in a warning and/or ban at mods' discretion.
